Two Clemson Start-Ups Named 2024 InnoVision Awards Finalists

Two Clemson start-ups have been selected as finalists for the InnoVision Awards! These finalists were selected as distinguished South Carolina businesses who are setting new benchmarks in innovation and technology.

Dr. Julian Brinkley’s technology, MyUI.AI, has been nominated for the Community Service Award. The InnoVision Community Service Award recognizes an organization for an innovation that improves the quality of life in South Carolina communities. His invention helps people with disabilities by breaking down barriers in digital technology, from self-driving cars to consumer electronics. Dr. Brinkley received a grant from CURF to advance his technology and was later supported by SCRA: South Carolina Research Authority. His current business resides in Clemson University's Brook T. Smith Launchpad.

Another finalist is Dr. Rhett Smith, whose Lignocellulose-Sulfur Composite Material will compete for the InnoVision Sustainability Award. The InnoVision Sustainability Award recognizes an organization for innovative approach to environmental stewardship. Dr. Smith’s sustainable construction material from waste products can be used on land and in the sea. He's currently working with companies to test its commercial viability. Dr. Smith also received a grant from Clemson's Research Foundation and support from SCRA to bring his technology to market in the marine industry.

Congrats to both inventors for their innovative work! The 2024 InnoVision Awards take place Thursday, Nov. 7 at Thornblade Country Club.
