Dear Colleagues,
The Clemson University Research Foundation (CURF) is committed to bridging the gap between groundbreaking research and real-world impact. The CURF Technology Maturation Fund is a key component of that mission, providing critical funding to advance CURF-managed innovations toward commercialization. Since 2015, this program has supported 59 projects with $1.72 million in funding, with 60% of funded projects securing follow-on funding awards to Clemson University totaling $19M and 29% resulting in commercial licenses and seven start-ups formed. This success underscores the value of investing in Clemson technology, helping faculty secure follow-on sponsored research funding and advancing their respective innovations closer to commercial licensing transactions.
Each proposal undergoes a detailed evaluation by a panel of technical and business subject matter experts and CURF staff, who assess submissions based on the following:
- Existing intellectual property disclosed and managed by CURF
- Research objectives and outcomes that have a high probability of generating follow-on sponsored research support and/or interest from potential industry licensees
- The technical merit of the project
- A clear path to commercialization based upon a defined value proposition and valid use case that addresses an existing unmet need in the marketplace
I encourage eligible faculty to take advantage of this opportunity and begin applying. The Letter of Intent (LOI) deadline is March 7, 2025, at 5 p.m. EST, and full proposals (by invitation) are due March 31, 2025. If you are ready to take your research to the next level, please consider applying to this unique funding program and let's continue driving Clemson innovations forward.
