Dr. Windsor Sherrill is well-known for her tireless work to improve conditions in public health institutions and research. Sherrill received her Ph.D. in Health Policy from Brandeis University in 2000 and is currently a Provost’s distinguished professor of public health sciences and Clemson’s senior associate vice president for research. She served as the Chief Science Officer for Prisma Health Upstate and was the founding Director of the Clemson University School of Health Research. Through her administrative positions, she facilitates research collaborations between Clemson’s faculty and health systems. Sherrill has extensively researched diverse disciplines, such as medical and health management education, health finance and policy, and the evaluation of health services and health education programs for underserved groups.
Through scholarly efforts and research partnerships, Dr. Sherrill has secured over $40 million in external funding and has published in journals such as Academic Medicine, BMC Health Services Research, BMJ Open Diabetes Research and Care, the Journal of Health Administration Education, Public Health Reports, and Preventing Chronic Disease. Some of her initiatives include the establishment of an accountable community's population health management initiative (Duke Endowment); evaluation of the uninsured in SC (BCBS Foundation of SC); establishing a patient engagement research studio; and evaluation of the MAiN palliative approach for treatment of newborns with neonatal abstinence syndrome (funded by SC DHHS, Anderson County, and Pickens County). Sherrill in collaboration with Clemson Extension colleagues established the Health Extension for Diabetes program (CURF Technology # 2022-015) to expand quality support for people living with diabetes. The program also provides internship opportunities that are building the health workforce.
Dr. Sherrill has been awarded the Class of ‘39 Award for Excellence and SC Liberty Fellowship, as well as served as the Faculty Representative to the Clemson University Board of Trustees and member on the board of the SC Institute of Medicine and Public Health.
